Utility Tax Scam
We
have been promised too many times for too many years
that the tax would be rescinded. Now all we hear is
that the council reduced the tax by 16%. The tax was
already reduced by 16% before they made the promises
to remove it completely so why haven't they kept their
promise?
What
is worse is that the utility tax money does not go directly
toward safety services like we thought. It is a general
tax that goes into the general fund. See more > here
<. This is the same fund that money is used for funding
for things like parks, roads, savings accounts, etc.
Is this what we were told the tax was going to be used
for when we were asked to vote on it in 2000?
Business
Retention
Look
up and down Beach Blvd and you can see first hand what
our current council members are doing with business
retention. This is what I tried to warn us about in
the late 1990's. A survey done by City claims that things
are fine but look for yourself. All up and down Beach
Blvd too many businesses are closed in the city of Stanton.
But once you get outside of the city limits, north of
Ball Road or south of Garden Grove Blvd., notice the
difference. It's like our city leaders have the "anti-Midas
touch".
Unemployment
We
have the second highest unemployment rate in the county
and it's been this way for a long time. See more >
here
<. I will make the decisions necessary to reduce
the penalties that burden our businesses so we can increase
employment.
Crime
Crime
continues to be an issue in Stanton. According to a
2004 Orange County Register article it was reported
that, "Sheriff's officials failed to report thousands
of crimes since 2000, making Orange County crime rates
appear lower than they actually were, crime statistics
and interviews show." For more information see
July 21, 2004 Orange County Register article entitled:
"O.C. crime rate much higher than reported; Sheriff's
Department blames software and human error for mishandling
of 15,000 reports."
But the council continues to claim that crime is down
even when the statistics are incorrect. Notice on the
Orange County Sheriff's website where it mentions they mishandled the crime stats. Here is a portion of their
site > here
<. I will make sure that the Sheriffs Department
is monitored and reports the statistics correctly and
work on a real plan for crime reduction.
Graffiti
Vandalism
and graffiti continues to be a problem. How many vandals
have been caught recently? It seems that the only time
the city gets cleaned up is during an election year.
I will create a real plan to clean up and combat graffiti.
